Today was my first time actually beginning the daunting task of putting my ideas on paper. Before I put paint on the illustration board, though, I wanted to experiment with my color choices to plan out how I am going to capture highlights and shadows in an effective way. The colors I will be working with are pink, red, purple, yellow, white, and occasionally a dab of brown. I started out with mixing the colors on an experimentation page so that I could have a visual of what the colors will look like blended together. That's when I realized that I prefer the technique of dab painting because I find the resultant texture more visually appealing than brush strokes. Plus, I am not confident in my ability to create forms with regular brush strokes. I was anxious to truly begin painting, so I went ahead and started on the highlights around the bra - line in the foreground. I am not happy with how the shadow of the breast is so dark and ill - blended. I strongly believe that I need to do my best on the first layer to establish as accurate of values as possible without perseverating. However, I want to work efficiently and be able to spend time focusing on the overlaying values by adding layers and small details. So, even though I do not like how it looks right now, I am hopeful for future progress.
